Our vision is to be a new kind of City Observatory for Edinburgh bringing people together around innovative art and iconic heritage.

Donate to help us raise the final funds.

Opening 2018

Restoration and construction work on Calton Hill’s City Observatory site are now at an advanced stage. In partnership with City of Edinburgh Council, Collective has saved the Observatory from the Buildings at Risk Register and will soon open the site freely to the public for the first time. In 2018, the restored City Observatory and Dome, along with a new exhibition space and purpose-built restaurant, will open together as Collective.

Historically the City Observatory was a place to house telescopes and observe the stars, but observatories are also places to view, to reflect upon a city and laboratories for research. Collective will be a new kind of City Observatory for Edinburgh, bringing people together to look at, think about, and produce contemporary art.

Join our mailing list or follow Collective on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for updates on our opening date.
